La Vie En Rose

Although having always been seen as the flower of love and beauty, there is much more to the rose than its common use to embellish special occasions. Inside the petals of a single rose lies an immense healing power of nature.

The traditional use of the rose - the “Queen of Flowers” - in caring for the self dates back to ancient Greek and Roman times. Some of it’s most renowned benefits are:

1) SKIN HEALTH

Anti-inflammatory properties of the rose reduce redness and irritation.

Being a natural astringent, the rose tightens pores and tones skin for a glowing complexion.

Antibacterial in nature, many have found rose to be helpful in overcoming acne and rosacea.

Powerfully antioxidant, rose helps combat signs of aging.

2) WOMEN’S HEALTH

A study published in 2013 in “Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine” found that those who massaged diluted rose essential oil into their abdomen 7 days before the onset of their period had significantly shorter and less intense cramps.

3) MOOD

Rose can enhance mood by relaxing the central nervous system, ultimately decreasing feelings of anxiety and depression.

For these reasons, and more, rose is one of our favorites, which is why we have incorporated it into our Lake Flower’s Aroma ritual at the Adirondack Foot Sanctuary to boost complexion and calm.

Here are some of our favorite ways to incorporate this beautiful botanic when practicing self-care rituals at home.

1) ROSE PETAL & SALT BATH

Crush dried rose petals and mix with our ADK Signature Soaking Salts (or your favorite soaking salts you have at home) for a self-care moment that will leave your skin hydrated and your mood elevated.

2) ROSE PETAL TEA

Infuse rose petals in a mug of boiling water. Let brew for 10 minutes, strain the petals, add your favorite sweetness, cuddle up under a cozy blanket and enjoy.

3) ROSE OIL AROMATHERAPY

Add 6-8 drops of rose essential oil into your diffuser. Sit with your eyes closed, inhaling and exhaling the calming scent of the rose.

These are our favorites, but we know there are are so many beautiful ways to incorporate the rose into our self-care rituals at home. We’d love to see how you add rose into your rituals at home. Be sure to tag us @adirondack_foot_sanctuary on Instagram and use the tag #readysetrelax to share with us.

And when you’re craving an exclusive rose experience, come visit us at the ADK Foot Sanctuary to be pampered in our use of rose in ritual in our Lake Flower’s Aroma ritual. Until then, be well, live sweetly.
